Bud was born May 4th, 1930 in Malta Township, MN to parents Jack and Della (Rasmussen) Knippen. He attended country school through the eighth grade before transferring to Ortonville High School where he graduated in 1948.
Bud was united in marriage with Sandra (Tobin) Knippen on June 15, 1974 in Ortonville, MN. Bud and Sandra are the parents of three children; Alan, Kim and David. The apple of Bud's eye was his grandson, Michael, whom he loved and admired greatly. Bud and Sandra celebrated 31 years of marriage before he passed away.
Over the years Bud did many things in addition to proudly working for the Pepsi Bottling Company for 37 years. He was the Treasurer for the United Congregational Church for many years, Treasurer of the Alumni Association for ten years, and Treasurer of the Citizens of Big Stone Lake for ten years. Bud also served as the Chairman of the Salvation Army of Big Stone County; in 2001 he was proud to be awarded Volunteer of the Year for the Salvation Army. One of Bud's favorite pastimes when he was younger was to go ballroom dancing with his beloved wife Sandra. Bud was a true Minnesotan; he loved watching the Twins, Vikings, and Gophers while also enjoying time spent outside fishing and camping. The time that was the most special to him was time spent with family and friends, whether it was over a cup of coffee at Pizza Ranch or a game of cards in his kitchen.
