Leo Nick Homan was born on August 4, 1908, to Charles and Cecilia Homan in St. Leo, MN. As a young boy, Leo grew up around St. Leo, MN, where he was baptized and had his first communion in the St. Leo Catholic Church. Leo attended Catholic school for eight years before he began working at home and also as a hired hand for area farmers.
In 1940, Leo moved with his family to Beardsley, MN, where he continued his love for the land by working for area farmers. On September 22, 1943, Leo Married Agnes Hoffman at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Browns Valley, MN. The couple made their home near Beardsley, MN, where they raised their seven children, Janice, Beatrice, Judy, Bob, Carolyn, and twin boys, Keith and Kenny. Leo loved farming, milking cows, and raising pigs. In October 1978, Leo and Agnes retired from farming and moved to Browns Valley.
Leo was a devoted member of the Catholic Church. He joined the Graceville Chapter of the Knights of Columbus in 1946 and later joined the Council at the St. Anthony Catholic Church. In his spare time, Leo enjoyed traveling and playing bingo at the Valley Vista Apartments. He was a proud member of the OK Senior Citizens where he treasured memories made playing cards. Leo's true love was his family and farming.
Leo passed away on Monday, May 29, 2006, at the Wheaton Community Hospital in Wheaton, MN, reaching the age of 97 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Cecilia; wife, Agnes; three sons-in-law, Bob Caston; Floyd Roark; and Dave Peterson; a brother, Tony; and seven sisters.
Leo will be remembered by his children, Janice Peterson, Beatrice (Bill) Conn, Judy (Arlo) Barkdull, Bob (Kathy) Homan, Carolyn Roark, Keith (Patti) Homan, and Kenny (Nancy) Homan; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; three brothers, Sylvester (Sally) Homan; Jake (Helen) Homan; and Gene (Beatrice) Homan; three sisters, Rosa Mertes; Katherine Spindler; and Kathleen (Bill) Spindler; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
