Lawrence H. V. Lundin, age 96, long-time LaBolt area resident, died February 2, 2007, in Milbank Area Avera Health Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 7th, at Parkview United Methodist Church in Milbank with Rev. Beth Conrad officiating. The organist will be Julie Ludwig, and the soloist will be Betty Jo White. Burial will be at the LaBolt Cemetery. Visitation will be at Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren: Amy Mier y Teran, Brian Wibbens, and Erik, Maren, Joshua, and Kjersten Ydstie. Active pallbearers are: Ron Anderson, Bruce Granquist, Marlyn Johnson, Mark Severson, Bill Street, and Clayton Tucholke.
Lawrence H. V. Lundin was born on January 9, 1911, in Madison Township, Grant County, on the Lundin homestead north of LaBolt. He was the son of John and Alice (Inga Lisa Sakariason) Lundin, Swedish immigrants. He was baptized on February 2, 1911, and confirmed June 28, 1925, at the Mission Church in LaBolt. He attended school at Madison #5 from 1917-1925.
On October 27, 1942, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Heckenlaible in LaBolt. He enjoyed farm life, working with livestock, especially dairy. In 1957, he purchased 10 dairy calves from Wisconsin. He was proud of his Swedish heritage, making two trips to Scandinavia to visit relatives and visiting his parents' birth sites. They also made two trips to the Holy Land and many bus trips in the United States and Canada. He enjoyed using his 16mm movie camera taking pictures of his three daughters, livestock, haying, and combining. He was known for his recollection, telling of stories and jokes. He was a loving father and proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of Parkview United Methodist Church.
Grateful to have shared in his life are his wife, Evelyn, of Milbank; and two daughters and sons-in-law: Karen & Roger Wibbens, Pierre, and Carol & Jonathan Ydstie, Milbank; six grandchildren: Amy (Alberto) Mier y Teran, San Diego, CA; Brian (Cathy) Wibbens, Pinehurst, NC; Erik (Rachel) Ydstie, West Fargo, ND; Maren Ydstie, Joshua Ydstie, Moorhead, MN; and Kjersten Ydstie, Milbank. Five great-grandchildren: Alexa & Lorenzo Mier y Teran; Benjamin & Jacob Wibbens, and Kade Ydstie. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Marlene (Lundin) Olson, and three brothers: Elmer, Paul, and Walter; two sisters: Mabel Lundin and Myrtle Peterson.
The family prefers that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials in lieu of flowers.
