LaVerne Wiley

Funeral services for LaVerne Wiley, 89, of Ortonville will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Eidskog Lutheran Church in rural Ortonville. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5 – 7 p.m. at Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville, with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Reverend John Ragan will officiate and music will be provided by Kathy Haukos and Liz Ketz. Pallbearers will be Doug "Buddy" Wiley, Zachary Mattison, Albert Mattison, Logan Flegel, Ron Thompson, and Rob Randall. Honorary bearers will be the VFW Post 3964 Ladies Auxiliary. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery.

LaVerne Wiley was born August 16, 1923, on the family farm in Milan, Minnesota to Clarence and Olga (Belseth) Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan and completed her education in the Milan school system.

LaVerne married Francis "Cub" Wiley and they lived their life together on the family farm in Otrey Township. Together they raised 5 children.

She spent her life working the farm together with Cub. After his passing, she continued to manage the farm until her death.

She was an independent woman and had many interests. She was especially known for her quilting, sewing for veterans, the church, and family. Among her other interests were watching wildlife at the farm, feeding the birds, playing cards, putting puzzles together, making caramels, and especially spending time with her family.

She was very active with the VFW Post 3964 Auxiliary, serving in many capacities. She was a member of Eidskog Lutheran Church. She maintained an interest in politics throughout her life.

LaVerne passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013 at her home.

LaVerne is survived by her daughters: Jon (Terry) Hull, Ann Mattison (Dan Christian), and Paulette Wiley; and her sons: Douglas Wiley and Alan Wiley. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ricke (Ruth) Mattison, Sara (Kurt) Flegel, Katherine (Mike) Chevalier, Meredith Wells (Matt Shaw), Douglas "Buddy" Wiley, Dayna (David) Wingert, Ally (Brian) Peterson, and Brianna Wiley. She was also blessed with great grandchildren: Albert, Zachary, Shelby, Abby, Logan, Ava, Sydnie, and Isabel. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, Francis "Cub" Wiley in 1988, her grandson Mason Nash in 1995, and her great grandson Tayib Nash in 1994; as well as her brother Oral Nelson and sister Violet Haugen.
