LaVerna Sanasack

Funeral Services for LaVerna Sanasack will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville, MN. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the Larson Funeral Home in Graceville from 5-7:00 PM with a Rosary Prayer service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the church. Father David Breu will be officiating and burial will be at the Graceville Consolidated Cemetery in Graceville.

LaVerna Gilsdorf was born in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, to parents Mathias and Anna (Greisen) Gilsdorf of February 2, 1910. She was baptized and confirmed in Humphrey, Nebraska. LaVerna grew up in Humphrey and Tarnoff, Nebraska, and Egbert, Wyoming. She attended grade school in Egbert until the 8th grade.

In 1924, she moved with her family to Graceville, MN. On September 11, 1934, she was united in marriage to Edward Medrick Sanasack. To this union, they were blessed with three children: Joanne, Ronald and Richard. After their marriage, they farmed in the Graceville and Dumont areas before settling near Collis in 1945. They moved to Graceville in 1973, in 1975, LaVerna began working at the Grace Home in the Craft Room until 1985.

LaVerna was active in St. Patrick's Woman's Guild in Collis, she was the President of Graceville Senior Citizens for many years, and then continued as secretary for the group. LaVerna was also a volunteer at Senior Dining until the time that she entered Grace Home. She, too, was active in the County Extension Club and the Ladies Card Group.

LaVerna enjoyed quilting; she made a quilt for every child and grandchild. She also crocheted; each child and grandchild had an afghan. She helped to make many clown dolls when working at the Grace Home. These dolls were purchased by many and are spread all over the USA and some are even overseas.

In 2006, LaVerna entered the Grace Home where she lived until she passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 28, 2011. She had lived to reach the age of 101 years.

LaVerna is survived by her children: Joanne Enquist of Nisswa, MN, Ronald (Marlene) of Collis, MN and Richard (Cindy) of Dumont, MN; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; sister Bernice Grohs of St. Cloud, MN and one brother John Gilsdorf of Hardin, MN.

LaVerna is preceded in death by her parents; Husband Edward Sanasack; sons-in-law Jack Derdoski and Roy Enquist; grandsons: Mark Sanasack and John Sanasack; brothers: Clarence Gilsdorf, Donald Gilsdorf, and Gilbert Gilsdorf; sisters: Geraldine Gilsdorf, Loretta Gilsdorf, Phyllis Hauschild and Jeanne Barnier.
