LaVerna Mau

November 1, 1942 — April 18, 2007

LaVerna (Rinkenberger) Mau was born on November 22, 1942, in Chokio, MN, to parents, Marlyn and Verna (Karsten) Rinkenberger. She grew up on a farm home with her four brothers. As a young girl, she attended school in Chokio and graduated from the Chokio/Alberta High School.

Following her education, LaVerna married her childhood sweetheart, Darrel Mau on September 24, 1960. Together, LaVerna and Darrel made Ortonville, MN, their home where they raised their three children, Gary, Valorie, and Dianna.

LaVerna loved her family and enjoyed the opportunity to be a stay at home mom for her children. She worked for over twenty-eight years preparing income tax returns at Max Gruenwald's Law Office in Milbank, SD. She also extended income tax services to her family and area residents from her home.

LaVerna's interests included tending her flower gardens, reading, sewing, as well as attending family social gatherings. She was a devout Christian. LaVerna and her husband Darrel served as missionaries for over fiver years in South America.

She was fortunate enough to have traveled most of the United States including Alaska. While at home, LaVerna relaxed with her cat and peacefully watched the birds and squirrels come and feed off the treats she left for them.

LaVerna passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, reaching the age of 64 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Darrel; one brother, Murl Rinkenberger; and a grandson, Jimmy Mau.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Gary (Cosette) Mau of Milbank, SD; Valorie (Kevin) Johnson of Watertown, SD; and Dianna (Dean) Butler of Burnsville, MN; her parents, Marlyn and Verna Rinkenberger of Chokio, MN; three brothers, John (Bonnie) Rinkenberger; Marson (Sue) Rinkenberger; and Marshall (Carolyn) Rinkenberger; grandchildren, Chassity, Nikki, Dana, Shevonne, Dylan, Stacie, Melanie, Donovan, Shannon, and Neil; great grandchildren, Cole, Collin, McKenzie and Deven; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends; as well as her pet cat Baby Bear.
