Lauretta Mielitz

Funeral services for Mrs. Lauretta L. Mielitz, 84, of Big Stone City, SD, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August, 29, 2009, at the United Methodist Church in Ortonville, MN. The Reverend Darrell Boe will officiate. Family members are asked to meet in the church basement by 10:00 a.m. Saturday to attend services. Lauretta died on Monday, August 24, 2009, at the Ortonville Hospital in Ortonville, MN. The organist will be Pat Kunz. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Friday from 5-7 p.m., with a prayer service to follow. Visitation will continue in the church on Saturday one hour before services. Pallbearers will be Leland Smith, Robbie Mielitz, Chad Mielitz, Matthew Chan, Eric Dockter, and Michael Mielitz. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Big Stone City, SD.

Lauretta was born on April 22, 1925, in Artichoke Township, Big Stone County, MN, to Hartley and Mary (Tobek) Robertson. She attended the Odessa, MN Public Schools.

She was united in marriage to Delmer Lee Mielitz on May 2, 1942, in Big Stone City. They lived and farmed in rural Big Stone City until Delmer's death in 2001. She moved into Big Stone City and resided there until entering the Northridge Residence in Ortonville, MN, in 2009. She will be remembered as being a thoughtful and forgiving mother and friend.

Survivors include her eleven children: Terry (Judy) Mielitz, Big Stone City, SD; Roger Mielitz and Duane (Linda) Mielitz, all of Rock Springs, WY; Sally (Tim) Breske, Elk River, MN; Neal (Terri) Mielitz, Big Stone City, SD; Sherri (Henry) Gimmestad, Big Stone City, SD; Debbie (Brad) Lewis, Fargo, ND; Peggy (Melvin) Dockter, Big Stone City, SD; Eugene (Julie) Mielitz, Watertown, SD; Kristi (Tom) Chan, Ortonville, MN; and Lonnie Mielitz, Milbank, SD; her son-in-law, Leonard Smith, Gillette, WY; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; her sister, Margaret Evenson, San Jose, CA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmer, her parents, one daughter, Betty Smith, one grandchild, five brothers, and two sisters.
