Larry Dorman Koll was born on February 12, 1954 in Watertown, South Dakota to Dorman and Valaria (Schmeling) Koll. Larry was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in South Shore, South Dakota. He attended elementary and high school in South Shore, SD, graduating in 1972.
Larry began working at Pioneer Meat Market in 1971, as a butcher where he continued to work until the late 80’s. Larry was united in marriage to Molly Brotzel on June 28, 1980, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in South Shore, SD. From this union, they had one daughter, Gwen, and Larry gained a step-son, Jason.
Larry worked various jobs including: working construction, bartending at Buzz’s Bar in Big Stone City, SD, playing DJ music with Paul Zahn, and most recently, working with concrete at Henrich and Sons.
Larry had a love of the outdoors; he was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending time in Ludlo, SD, enjoying these things. He also liked to garden, especially his vegetable garden. Larry was a member of the Moose Lodge #407 in Ortonville, MN.
Larry enjoyed spending time with his many friends, whether it was shooting pool or playing darts. He also enjoyed bingo, playing at the Big Stone Legion on Friday nights and at the Moose Lodge on Saturday mornings. He liked playing cards and dancing.
Larry was a man with a very kind heart; he was always there to help anybody with anything that they needed. Larry was not the type to trouble other people, he was his own person, and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his friends, family, and especially his grandchildren.
Larry died on Thursday, January 15, 2005, at Ortonville Area Health Services, having lived to reach the age of 54 years.
Larry is survived by his daughter Gwen (Aaron) Ludwigson of Menomonie, WI; step-son, Jason Brotzel of Clayton, WI; grandchildren: Skyler and Keira Ludwigson; brothers: Charles (Gayle) Koll of South Shore, SD and Doug Koll of Lake Poinsett, SD; sister Valgene (Doug Pierce) Koll of Billings, MT; nephews: Adam Koll, Tyler Koll, and Travis Pierce; and the mother of his child, Molly Stauffacher.
Larry is preceded in death by his parents.
