Kevin Raaf

Kevin Raaf, age 69, of Ortonville, MN, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

A Celebration of Life open house for Kevin will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville, MN. Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Kevin Robert Raaf was born on February 27, 1954, at St. Michael’s Hospital in Sauk Centre, MN. He was the son of Virgil and Leone (Lau) Raaf. He grew up in the Bellingham, MN, area and attended school there graduating with the Class of 1972. Following high school, Kevin attended Vo-Tech School in Willmar, MN, and graduated in 1974. In 1975, Kevin opened “Kevin’s Body Shop” in Ortonville.

On June 24, 1972, Kevin was united in marriage with Utonia Holtquist and the two were blessed with two daughters: Mindy and Stephanie. The couple subsequently divorced. Kevin found another love in Dorothy Engebretson and the two were married on May 27, 1983. Kevin and Dorothy later divorced. In more recent years, Kevin connected with a fellow Bellingham schoolmate, Janet (Taylor) Worden. The two enjoyed spending time together and spending time with their families.

During his formative years, Kevin found joy in playing guitar and participating in high school football. He had an adventurous spirit, enjoying rides on horseback with his wife, Dorothy. Kevin also had a soft spot for dogs, cherishing their loyal companionship throughout his life. He was a member of the Ortonville Fire Department until his retirement in 1994.

A true outdoorsman, Kevin embraced the beauty of nature through hunting and camping, finding solace in the serenity of the wilderness. He also had a charismatic personality and thrived in social settings, leaving a lasting impression on all those fortunate enough to have shared laughter and stories with him, were on the receiving end of his “teasing”.

Kevin is survived by his daughters: Mindy (Dave) McMahon of Correll, MN: and Stephanie Witmer (Travis Knettel) of Aberdeen, SD; six grandchildren: Shawna Arndt (Jesse Barnhardt), Tyler Arndt, Korien Witmer, Jasmin Chandler, Kyle Knettel, and Bruce Knettel; four great-grandchildren: Grace Barnhardt, Myla Arndt, Cody Chandler, and Cooper Chandler; sister, Ginger Drobny of Nassau, MN; niece, Julie Drobny; along with his two favorite four-legged friends: Oscar and Tuggs.

He was preceded in death by his significant other, Janet Worden on October 5, 2016; father, Virgil Raaf on February 18, 2011; mother, Leone Raaf on April 12, 1994; and brother-in-law, Larry Drobny on October 31, 2022.
