Kenneth “Kenny” Wayne Quade was born on July 5, 1944, in Ortonville, MN, to Ruben and Ella (Aschwege) Quade. He was raised in rural Corona, SD, and graduated from Corona Independent High School. Kenny worked as a barber, a truck driver, a ranch hand, and retired from Grant County as a road grader operator.
Kenny’s passion was singing and playing guitar. In 1965, he started his first band with his lifelong friend, Larry Tietjen, and they performed together for over 50 years. When the band was first formed, they practiced in the basement of Doris and Milo Wendland. It was there he found his true love, Myra. Myra and Kenny spent the next 54 years raising their children, trail riding, camping, watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, and making music.
Kenny will always be remembered for his musical talent, especially his ability to perform Johnny Cash songs. He provided people from all over South Dakota and the surrounding states with entertainment for many decades. He was well known for playing at weddings, barn and street dances, and would never turn down an opportunity to play for family and friends. Kenny passed on his love for music to his family. His eyes shown with pride as his son, Wayne, would drum and his daughter, Kimberly, would sing with him.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Myra; his daughters: Pam (Scott) Jackson of Milbank, SD; Julie (Wayne) Fritz of Milbank, SD; Cindy (Wyatt Davis) of Twin Brooks, SD; Kimberly (Tony) Folk of Corona, SD; his son, Wayne (Nancy) Quade of Milbank, SD; 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; brothers: Howard (Jean) Quade of Corona, SD; and Donald Quade of Corona, SD; and sisters-in-law: Blanche Rohlfs, Mille Pederson, Clara Pederson, Linda Morton, and Betty Schultz.
