Kenneth Rankin Burg was born July 29, 1914 in Roberts County, SD, to Emma (Hendrick) and Henry Burg. He grew up and attended country school in Roberts County until entering High School in Browns Valley. Kenny was the oldest of 6 children, and the only boy. On May 1, 1933, he was united in marriage to Gladys Harriet Brewster, and they began their life together that spanned almost 7 decades. After Lyle Kenneth "Petie",their first child was born, they bought the Brewster family farm in Traverse County, MN, where Marilyn, Mary Lou, Jim, Curt, and Brad were born. Kenny worked for Moose Randall on a fishing crew for many years when times were tough during the 30's and 40's. He was a familiar face in town - loving to socialize, joke and tease. Though he bowled and played baseball in his younger years, he has always loved playing cards and did so nearly every day at Pat Sullivan's, then Butch's Place until recent years. I'm sure the camaraderie was a big part of the attraction.
Kenny will be sadly missed by many, but leaves behind great memories.
He is survived by children, Mary Lou Evans of Fridley, MN, Jim (Jonnie) Burg of Browns Valley, Curt (Brenda) Burg of Belen, NM, Brad Burg of Zumbrota, MN; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Lorraine Burg of Sisseton, SD, Isabelle Cox of Sacremento, CA, and Delores Currence of Sisseton, SD. Kenny is preceded in death by his parents; wife Gladys; 2 children, "Petie",and Marilyn; 2 grandchildren, Stacie and Shannon Burg; 2 sisters, Lucille Beyers, and Emogene Werth; son-in-law Herb Evans.
