Katherine Fredericka Mikkelson was born in Big Stone County, Minnesota on January 8, 1916 to Olaf and Matilda (Eide) Mikkelson. She was baptized at home and confirmed at St. Pauli Lutheran Church in Clinton. She graduated with the class of 1936 from Ortonville High School. Following graduation, Katherine moved to the Twin Cities, working in various positions, including as an Inspector for the New Brighton Defense Plant during World War II.
Katherine was united in marriage to Sanford Huselid on July 5, 1947. To this union, they were blessed with two daughters: Deanna and Jeanne. Katherine was a devoted wife and mother. Together, they farmed the Huselid Farmstead east of Clinton until Sanford’s passing in 1990. Katherine then lived in Clinton for several years and moved to the Westridge Retirement Home in Minnetonka in 1998. In 2005, Katherine was moved to the Walker Elder Care Suites where she lived until her death.
Katherine was a member of St. Pauli Lutheran Church and then Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton. She attended Circle and Ladies Aide Meetings. Katherine enjoyed homemaking, gardening, and reading.
Katherine was welcomed into the presence of her Lord and Savior on January 22, 2010 at Walker Elder Care Suites in Edina, MN. She had lived to reach the age of 94 years.
Katherine is survived by her daughters: Deanna Webber of Phoenix, AZ and Jean Huselid of Minneapolis, MN and; one brother Elmer Mikkelson of Rockford, IL; grandchildren: Diane Kelly, Bill Knowles, Heather Malmberg; and many great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Sanford; son William Knowles; great granddaughter Sherri Lynn Knowles; son-in-law Joseph Webber; grandson-in-law Bob Kelly; sisters: Olga and Clara; brothers: Alfred, Mervin, Julius, Johnny and Leonard.
