Joseph Knutson was born on August 15, 1920, to John and Josephine (Gjengdahl) Knutson in rural Otrey Township. He was baptized August 18, 1920 and confirmed his Christian faith at Eids Lutheran Church rural Otrey Township.
Joe attended school at District #47 in Big Stone County. After graduating from 8th grade, he attended High School at Odessa Public School. Following his education, Joe farmed with his brothers and Dad until he married Lillian Stock on December 16, 1941 at the Odessa Trinity Lutheran Parsonage. They farmed east of Odessa for many years. Later they moved to Odessa, where they operated the CafA�A� in Odessa. Joe then began working for the Ortonville Stone Quarry, named later the Ortonville Stone Crusher.
Then Joe went to the cities where he worked at the University of Minnesota. He drove home every weekend but once due to a bad snow storm in the thirteen years he was there.
Joe enjoyed playing bingo and cards, and well as fishing and hunting. He enjoyed watching his sons and daughters play ball and when they weren't playing the Yankee's and Twin's were a close second. Following his retirement, he enjoyed mowing his lawn and tending to his beautiful garden.
Joseph died on September 16, 2004, at the Northridge Residence Home, reaching the age of 84.
Joe is survived by his wife, Lillian; Sons, Gary (Mary Joe) Knutson of Ortonville, MN, Lonnie (Pat) Knutson of Beardsley, MN, Rory (Janet) Knutson of Big Stone City, SD, Carla Knutson of Odessa, MN; two daughters, Roxy (Wesley) Folkens of Maple Grove, MN, Kim (Terry) Nelson of Kasson, MN; one sister, Agnes (Knutson) Thomson of Ortonville, MN; 11 Grandchildren,7 Great-Grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Carl, Albert, and Arnold; one Son, Larry; an infant daughter, and one grandchild Danny Knutson.
