Funeral services for John W. Mosher, age 70, of DeKalb, Illinois, will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 4, 2006, at the Elim Evangelical Covenant Church in Stockholm, SD. The Reverend Stephen Leston will officiate. John died on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at his home. Visitation will be at the church on Monday one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, rural Stockholm, SD, with graveside military rites presented by the Stockholm-Strandburg American Legion Post #171. A memorial is being established for John W. Mosher in care of the Anderson Funeral Home, Ltd., PO Box 605, 2001 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, Ill. 60115.
John was born on August 26, 1936, in Holland, Michigan, the son of Bernard W. and Letha A. (Crum) Mosher. He was united in marriage to Muriel E. Hansen on June 29, 1970, in Stockholm, SD.
He graduated from the Bob Jones Academy, Bob Jones University, and attended Columbia Bible College. He was a missionary doing radio work with TEAM in Aruba and with SEND in Alaska. John was a member of the Kishwaukee Bible Church in DeKalb and a former member of the Petersburg Bible Church in Alaska, where he served as an Elder and Sunday school teacher. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife Muriel, DeKalb; his three children: Heather Leston and husband Reverend Stephen, DeKalb, Ill.; Jill Mosher, Freeport, Ill., and Nathan Mosher and wife Carrie, Buffalo Grove, Ill.; four grandchildren: Anna, Amber, Alyssa, and Andrew Leston; two sisters, Marilyn Kinkade and Pauline Mosher; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dorothea Mosher.
