John Michael Mathison

John Michael Mathison, age 57, of Beardsley passed away on January 25,2023.

A Celebration of Life to honor John will take place on Sunday, February 5, 2023, from 1:00-3:00 PM at the Clinton Memorial Building in Clinton, MN. Please join the family to share a light lunch, as well as all your good memories of John. Burial at a later date.

John was born December 26, 1965, in Graceville, MN, to parents LeRoy Mathison and Kathy (Weinman) Mathison. He grew up in both Elk River and Clinton, MN, and was active in sports throughout school. Following graduation from Clinton High School, John enlisted in the United States Air Force and served four years stationed in Pensacola, Florida.

Upon his return to Minnesota, John began working construction, mostly building and repairing turkey barns. His career was cut short after being diagnosed with a rare lung disease around age 45 which forced him to go on disability. Despite many medical challenges thrown his way, John never complained about his situation. Instead, he made the most of each day with his great sense of humor and was thankful for every breath.

John enjoyed taking his dog, Willow, for runs with his four-wheeler; visiting with his neighbors in Beardsley; taking part in Fantasy NASCAR; and target practice using an air gun with his friend Gary. John spent a lot of his time watching sports on television. His favorites included NASCAR, tennis, golf, girls college softball, football and the Olympics.

John is survived by his daughter,r Makayla of Sisseton, SD; sister, Danille (Dani) of Hanover, MN; and his furry companions: Willow and Pinky; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Preceded in death by parents: LeRoy Mathison and Kathy (Weinman) Mathison; brother, Lee; his grandparent;s and other extended family members.

Memorials will be distributed to organizations close to John.
