John Herman Kleindl was born on January 12, 1924 to parents John A. and Margaret (Erhnst) Kleindl in Graceville, MN. John was baptized on January 23, 1924 in Barry, MN, at St. Barnabas, where he was also later confirmed. John attended Country School in Barry until the 8th grade when he went to St. Mary’s Academy in Graceville, graduating in 1942. John then joined the Military where he served in Korea.
On September 6, 1950, John was united in marriage to Dorothy Murray at St. Patrick’s Church in Collis, MN. To this union, they were blessed with seven children: Elaine, Jack, Greg, Jean, Tom, Larry, and Debbie. They made their home together on a farm near Barry, MN where they raised their children and farmed for 55 years. They continued to live on the farm until 2004 when they moved into Graceville.
John was a very active member of the community. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church where he served as a lector and a communion distributor, he served on the cemetery board, was on the Toqua Township Board for 48 years, an NFO Member, and a member of the American Legion.
John enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, attending their many activities. He had a love of the outdoors; hunting, fishing (with the help of Dorothy), and watching the wildlife. John also enjoyed hearing and telling jokes, and visiting with family, friends, and neighbors.
John died on Sunday, September 13, 2009, at Grace Home in Graceville, MN, having lived to reach the age of 85 years.
John is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 59 years; children:Elaine (Don) Johnsrud, Jack (Carol) Kleindl, Greg (Luann) Kleindl, Jean (Terry) Hoppe, Tom (January) Kleindl, Larry (Natalie) Kleindl, Debbie (Duane) Richardson; grandchildren: Laurie (Kirk) Kossan, Kevin (Jill) Johnsrud, Shelly (Torey) Issendorf, Tammy (Todd) Hale, Theresa (Tom) Moore, John (Stephanie) Kleindl, Melissa (Cory) Kranz, Sally (Andy) Nelson, Jacob (Danielle) Kleindl, Eric (Melissa) Kleindl, Chrissy (Steve) Wills, Danny Kleindl, Jeff Hoppe, Corey Hoppe, Travis (Tiffany) Hoppe, Chad Hoppe, Nicholas Kleindl, Nathan Kleindl, Brittany Kleindl, Kimberly (Lee) Sigler, Kerrie (Ryan) Berg, Kayla Fuhrman and George and Gracie; 29 great-grandchildren; brothers: Frances, Lawrence, and Willy Kleindl; sisters: Theresa (Ron) Petersdorf, Margaret Billiet; sisters-in-law: Patsy Murray, Eileen Anderson, Shirley Peyton, Dorothy A. Kleindl, and Margaret Kirkey; and many nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his parents John and Margaret Kleindl; infant son; brothers: Clarence, Alvin, Edward, Joseph; and sister Rose Wencel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the family to be designated at a later date.
