John Evert Berglund, age 79, of South Shore, SD, died February 9, 2007, in Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2007, in the South Shore Community Center, South Shore, South Dakota, with the Reverend Mark Chapman officiating. The pianist will be Steven Misener, and the soloists will be Ronnie Jensen and Paul Peterson. Casket bearers will be Craig Hanna, Alan Hanna, Dwight Hanna, Mark Anderson, Rick Anderson, Tom Kos, and Jesse Mussetter. Visitation will be at Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Monday from 4-7 p.m. and in the South Shore Community Center one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Bethany Baptist Cemetery, Strandburg, South Dakota. Military rites will by the Stockholm-Strandburg American Legion Post #171.
John Evert Berglund was born on February 23, 1927, in Strandburg, South Dakota. He was the son of Fredrick and Amanda (Korsberg) Berglund.
He graduated from the Strandburg High School in 1945. He enlisted in the service on February 21, 1945 and entered the navy on April 18, 1945. He served one year, four months, and twenty days with the 7th Fleet in the Philippines as Mailman Third Class Director of Finance Department. He was discharged on July 18, 1946.
On May 23, 1959, he was united in marriage to Joanne Green at Bethel Baptist in Strandburg. He farmed until 1966, when he moved to St. Paul. He resided there, doing sheet metal work, from 1966-1987. He then moved back to the Milbank area.
Survivors include his wife, Joanne, of South Shore; six children: Danny (Sharon) Berglund, LaBolt, SD; Susie (Tony) Bourgoin, Inver Grove Heights, MN; Donna (John) Mussetter, Northbranch, MN; Denise (Brian) Schroeder, Inver Grove Heights, MN; Diana Berglund, South St. Paul, MN; and Teddy Berglund, South Shore; eight grandchildren: Aaron & Ashley DeCoteau; Joel Bourgoin; Jesse & Sean Mussetter; Angela Schroeder, Gina and Corey Jacobson; a sister, Carol Hanna, Strandburg; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Geneva Anderson.
The family prefers that expressions of sympathy be memorials in lieu of flowers.
