Jeffrey Scott Schmidt was born on June 4, 1960, in Sioux Falls, SD. He was the son of Marlin and Shirley (Sorenson) Schmidt. When Jeff was three years old, the family moved to Marvin, SD, in the summer of 1963. He attended school in Milbank and graduated from Milbank High School with the Class of 1978. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Jeff was a life-long farmer and rancher. He started helping his dad on the family farm when he was in the third grade. After high school, Jeff continued farming and worked hard to build up his own farm and trucking business. Jeff’s life consisted of farming and ranching. He attended cattle sales and enjoyed friendships made with livestock, seed, and implement dealers. It was a rare occasion that Jeff would leave the farm, but in his earlier years, Jeff enjoyed playing pool, and most recently enjoyed riding ATVs in the Black Hills. He refused to get on an airplane, so he would drive to Texas to visit his daughter, Sarah, and her family. Jeff had a generous and kind heart. He was spontaneous with gifts and acts of love. He cherished his family and loved time spent together. Jeff was always the “life of the party,” with his friendly personality. He enjoyed visiting with his friends and neighbors.
Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters: Sarah (Schmidt) Charbonneau of Katy, TX; and April Schmidt of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren: Madison Reil, Natalie Manriquez, Cooper Manriquez, and Beau Strohman; his parents: Marlin and Shirley Schmidt of Milbank, SD; two sisters: Jennifer (Darwin) Daugaard of Garretson, SD; and Jackie (Brad) Olson of Twin Brooks, SD.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, LeRoy and Gladys Schmidt and Ralph and Agnes Sorenson.
