Jay Orvik, 68, of Ortonville, MN, passed away June 19, 2019, at Eventide Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo, ND, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
A Celebration of Life memorial will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2019, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Ortonville High School gymnasium. Lunch will be served. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Shelly, MN.
Jay Alan Orvik was born on August 10, 1950, in Fargo, ND, to James and Audrey (Haugstad) Orvik of Shelly, MN. After graduating from Hillsboro High School (Hillsboro, ND) in 1968, Jay earned his Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Business Education and Physical Education from Mayville State University in 1973. Jay served in the National Guard from 1972 to 1977.
Jay had an impact on many during his teaching career that spanned more than 35 years. He taught a variety of classes from elementary through high school while also coaching football and basketball in Kensington and Bellingham, MN. Jay was proud to coach basketball and teach Driver’s Education in Ortonville, MN, after retiring from the Bellingham school.
Jay will be missed and will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His stories (“short story, long”), infectious laugh, telling jokes, teasing, bear hugs, and kind heart will forever be remembered by his family, friends, the many young people he taught and coached, and all whose lives he touched along life’s pathway. Jay loved all things sports, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, watching Bonanza and of course, talking.
Jay loved his family and supported them in all their endeavors. Jay is survived by his children: Douglas (Margo) Orvik of Parker, CO; Kent (Ruth) Orvik of Barnesville, MN; grandchildren: Rayna, Carly, and Evan; sister, Joyce (Dale) Boeddeker of Fargo, ND; niece, Jayne (Mark) Timmerman of West Fargo, ND; nephews: Bryan (Stephanie) Boeddeker and Brad (Tanie) Boeddeker of Chicago, IL; Brent (Brittany) Boeddeker of Fargo, ND; great-nephews: Ethan and Benjamin; and great-niece, Avery.
Jay is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Stewart.
