James "Butch" Rudy Holland, was born on June 5, 1939, to parents, Rudy and Muriel (Sullivan) Holland in Browns Valley, MN. Butch grew up and attended school in Browns Valley, graduating from Browns Valley High School in 1957. Following school, he worked for the Traverse County Highway Department until 1963, soon after he opened Butch's Place in Browns Valley. On April 27, 1964, he was united in marriage to Bernadette Elsen at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley, MN. Butch owned and operated Butch's Place for 45 years, closing the doors in January 2007.
Butch was a member of Knights of Columbus and St. Anthony's Catholic Church of Browns Valley.
Butch is survived by one daughter, Jackie (Shawn) Tennyson of Fargo, ND; two brothers, Mike (Shirley) Holland of West Fargo, ND, Jerry (Barbara) Holland of Stillwater, MN; three sister-in-laws, Patricia Bennett of Browns Valley, Colleen (David) Peickert of West Fargo, ND, Kathy (Clayton) Palmquist of Wilmot, SD; three grandchildren, Meghan, Lindsey and Emma; and several nieces and nephews. Butch is preceded in death by his parents, Rudy and Muriel and his wife, Bernadette.
