Irvin Vold

Funeral services for Irvin Lawrence Vold, age 81 of Dumont, MN will be Monday, December 23, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville, Minnesota. Father David Breu will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday, December 22nd at Holy Rosary Catholic Church from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date at St. Patrick's Cemetery, rural of Collis MN.

Irvin Lawrence Vold was born July 17, 1932, in Graceville, Minnesota to Hans and Muriel (Haney) Vold. Irvin was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Collis, MN. He attended the Collis School until the 8th grade, then attended and graduated from Graceville High School.

Irvin entered the United States Army on June 22, 1953, as a PVT 1st Class. He quickly rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Irvin received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Ribbon and United States Service Medal. He was honorably discharged from the service on December 7, 1954.

On January 8, 1955, Irvin was united in marriage with Dorothy Jean Lubbesmeyer and to this union nine children were born. Irvin entered into his post military employment, working as a heavy equipment operator at Conroy Construction. He later worked as a driller and explosive operator for the rock quarries in and around Ortonville MN.

In 1958 Irvin began farming in Leonardsville Township, Traverse County. He built his current home on the Vold homestead land in Tara Township, Traverse County in the fall of 1972. This is where he lived and farmed until the present day.

Irvin was a member of American Legion Post 296 and a life time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5909, Wheaton MN. He took pride in his service for his country by actively helping to fundraise for the Korean War Memorial in Washington D.C. He also traveled to visit several various war memorials across the nation, along with rebuilding Korean War era Jeeps and troop transport trucks. Irvin was appreciative of the numerous gestures of kindness and recognition for his service. Irvin enjoyed bowling and dancing with his wife Dorothy. He enjoyed watching his children's sporting events.





Left to cherish his memory are his children: Beth (Maynard) Arndt of Graceville, MN; Mary (Mike) O'Neill of Beardsley, MN; Rick (Nancy) Vold of Fergus Falls, MN; Pat (Denise) Vold of Breckenridge, MN; Theresa (Chuck) Grimes of Dumont, MN; Greg (Sandy) Vold of Graceville, MN; Joleen (Rex) Morgan of Monticello, MN; Val (Chad) Sittig of Litchfield, MN; Rob (Jenny) Vold of Otsego, MN; and Ariel (Zimra) Tal of Messilot, Israel; 25 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; granddaughter, Morgan Grimes; his parents, Hans and Muriel Vold; brother, Robert Vold; and his mother-in- law, Elizabeth Lubbesmeyer.
