Ida Marie Carlson was born on October 9, 1925 to parents Lenus and Elda (Anderson) Carlson in Argyle, MN. Ida was baptized on May 25, 1936 at the Lutheran Church of Argyle and was confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Argyle, MN. Ida attended school in Argyle where she graduated in 1943. After graduation, she attended Northstar College for one year of County School Teaching, Concordia College for one year of Nursing and in 1972; she graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education.
On January 2, 1950, Ida was united in marriage to Rolland E, Parent at St. Rose of Lima in Argyle, MN by Rev. Henry Rousseau. To this union, six children were born: John, Robert, Philip, Anne, Catherine and Michelle.
Ida worked at several jobs that enabled her to pursue her education including selling popcorn with her brother Harley at the Old Mill and working at the Argyle and Fairmont Creameries. Her first teaching job was with District 13 East in a one room school house. She was the first Kindergarten teacher hired at St. Rose of Lima in 1958 and continued teaching there until her move to Graceville. For 22 years, Ida was the Head Start and Kindergarten teacher for the Chokio – Alberta School District.
Ida was a member of the Argyle Twirlers, Sweet Adelines, Graceville Service Club and the Graceville City Council. Ida enjoyed cooking and baking for her family and friends. Ida had a love for music and took pride in her singing in the choir. She also played the snare drum and played with the Argyle Band in 1939 for Queen Elizabeth and King George in Winnipeg. Ida liked reading but most of all, she took great joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ida is survived by her children: John Parent of Graceville, MN, Robert “Bob” (Susan) Parent of Filer, Idaho, Philip Parent of Madison, SD, Anne (Mark) Dietz of Graceville, MN, Catherine “Katie” (Patrick) Philips of Glencoe, MN, Michelle “Shelly” (Alan) Koch of Litchfield, MN: special nephew: Lindley (Betty) Johnson of Argyle, MN; grandchildren: Dusty (Stacey Parent), Tyson (Charlene) Parent, Betsy (Troy) Wollman, Landon Parent, Peter Parent, Jessica (Kyle) Kleindl, Carly (Trampas) Howe, Markie (Tom) Dietz, Andrew (Jana) Kunkel, Daniel Kunkel, Cori Philips, Nicole Philips, Hannah Koch, Elizabeth Koch and Elana Koch; great-grandchildren: Jaquia and Tyse Parent, Madison and Sophia Wollman, Riley, Emmilyanne and Charles Kleindl, Jaxon E. Trampas Howe, Natalie, Dylin and Ethan Kunkel; and many nieces and nephews.
Ida is preceded in death by her husband Rolland; parents Edla and Lenus Carlson; great-grandson Mitchell Kleindl; sister Mildred Johnson; brothers: Lawrence Carlson, Myron Carlson, Russel Carlson and Harley Carlson.
