Howard Zimbrick

Larson Funeral Home announces the death of Howard Zimbrick, age 87 of Beardsley, MN. Howard passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 in Fargo, ND. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at the Larson Funeral Home in Graceville. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Paul Warnier officiating. Burial will be in the Graceville Consolidated Cemetery.

Howard Robert Zimbrick was born on February 22, 1924 at Holy Trinity Hospital in Graceville, MN to parents Lloyd and Mary (McMahon) Zimbrick. Howard was baptized in March 1924 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Beardsley, MN. He grew up on the family homestead north of Beardsley. Howard attended country school District #7 in Traverse County until the 8th grade followed by continued education at Morris School of Agriculture where he graduated in 1942. He then returned home to farming.

On October 17, 1945, Howard was united in marriage to Alma "Jean" Madsen at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Graceville, MN. They made their home on Howard's family farm. Four children were blessed to this union. Howard and Jean moved from the family farm into Beardsley in 1974 when their son Dennis and his family moved onto the homestead. Howard continued farming with Dennis well into retirement.

Howard was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Beardsley; served on the Arthur Township board, and was on the Beardsley School Board for many years. Howard enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada with his brother, sons and nephews. He enjoyed golfing and steak fry's with his friends. Jean and Howard spent a few years wintering in Texas and the southwest as well as traveling around the Midwest visiting family and friends. Howard loved to dance and taught his children at a young age. He and Jean enjoyed following the children and grand-children in sports, music and all their other interests. He always had a smile on his face and an encouraging word. Time spent with his grandkids and great-grandkids was very precious to him.

Howard is survived by his wife Jean of Beardsley; sons: Dennis (Sharon) Zimbrick of Beardsley, MN and Robert (Cheryl) of Richmond, KY; daughter Jodi (Bob) Peterson of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren: Dennis "Patrick" Zimbrick of Sioux Falls, SD, Darin Zimbrick of Fargo, ND, Darcy (Bill) Sather of St. Paul, MN, Diatra Zimbrick of Fargo, ND, Danielle Zimbrick of Fargo, ND, Kayli (Josh) Siegfried of Sioux Falls, SD, Kevin (Kristina) Peterson of Sioux Falls, SD, and Kelsey (Chris) Tinklenberg of Harrisburg, SD; great-grandchildren: Madeline Zimbrick , Dylan and Carly Peterson, and Sam and Hadley Siegfried; brother John (Patricia) Zimbrick of Madison, WI; sister-in-law Bernice Madsen of Graceville, MN; nephews Tom (Mary Kay) Zimbrick of Madison, WI and Mike Zimbrick of Prauge, Czech Republic; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Howard is preceded in death by an infant daughter Bonnie Jean in 1946 and his parents Mary and Lloyd.
