Howard Sitter

Howard L. Sitter, age 87, of Ortonville, MN, died Saturday August 8, 2009 at the Ortonville Hospital.



Funeral service for Howard Sitter will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at First United Methodist Church of Ortonville, MN, with Pastor Darrell Boe officiating. Burial will be in the Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 6 – 8 P.M. at the Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville, MN.



Howard L. Sitter the son of Cornelius and Cornelia (Kuyper) Sitter, was born August 6, 1922 in Odessa Township and resided in Otrey Township. Howard was baptized and attended Odessa Evangelical United Church, and later, First United Methodist of Ortonville. He attended country school and lived on the same farm for 85 years.

Howard met Hannah “Penny” Robertson at a Christmas program at the District 13 school. At the age of 25 Howard married Penny on November 8, 1947.They made their home on Howard’s family farm by Otrey Lake. While he raised his family, Howard, was a dairy farmer. After developing Crohn’s Disease, he was forced to retire from daily farming. He then became the Big Stone County Agricultural Inspector. When he retired, Howard continued an active interest in yard work and gardening, camping, fishing, and hunting with his favorite dog, Homer. Throughout his life, Howard played an active role in the lives of his family, friends and neighbors.

He was a man of the land and loved to ride his tractor, plant things, pump his water from the well each day, watch the wildlife on the farm and fish on Long Tom Lake.

Howard is survived by his wife, Hannah “Penny” of Ortonville, MN; children, Leigh Sitter of Ortonville, Bonita Sitter and Fredericka Schilling of Blue Mounds, WI, Jay Sitter and BethMarie Ward of Minneapolis, MN; 1 grandchild, Paul Seefeld; sister, Arvilla Clark of Sauk Rapids, MN; and an abundance of special nieces and nephews.



He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clyde and Earl; two sisters, Viola and Eloise.



In Lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the family for a subsequent donation to a charity.
