Howard Roth, age 77, of Clinton, MN, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at his home.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank, SD. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 8, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Mundwiler Funeral Home with a prayer service beginning at 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Rev. Dave Tonn will officiate the service and interment will be at Clinton City Cemetery in Clinton, MN. Following the interment, all are invited to the Clinton Memorial Building for a time of food and fellowship.

The service will be livestreamed and recorded and will be viewable at the bottom of this page.

Howard LeRoy Roth was born on May 21, 1945, in Madison, MN, to Donald and Mildred (Goetsch) Roth. He was baptized on June 17, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran in Bellingham, MN, and confirmed on May 31, 1959, at St. John’s Lutheran in Marietta, MN. Howard graduated high school from Marietta, MN, with the Class of 1963.

Following graduation, Howard joined the United States Navy on July 24, 1963, and served until July 17, 1967. He was a Marine Machinist with the USS Lloyd Thomas serving as his last duty ship. Howard had 3 years, 4 months, and 4 days of foreign and sea service. Howard was honorably discharged to the Naval Reserve and served from July of 1967 to July of 1969. He enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard in May of 1973 and was honorably discharged in May of 1983, serving as a 11 Charlie Infantryman and 13 Bravo Field Artilleryman.  He had a total of 16 years of services to his country.

Howard lived in Dawson, MN, where he drove truck for the Soybean plant. He was also an active member of the police reserves, fire department, and ambulance service. He later moved to Winthrop, MN, where he worked at Dairy Farmers of America. Upon his retirement in 2007, Howard moved to Clinton, MN, to enjoy some well-deserved leisure time. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, building, gardening, and spending time at Buzz’s Tavern in Big Stone City, SD.

Left to cherish Howard’s memory are his children: Dawn (Doug) Borchert of Sioux Falls, SD; Howard D. (Amy) Roth of Overton, NE; and Jennifer Stiernagle of Garrison, MN; step-children: Vern Kaufman of Brandon, MN; and Tamera Abraham of Gaylord, MN; eight grandchildren: Megan Borchert, Emily Borchert, Andrew Borchert, Nick Roth, Mathew Roth, Derrick Stiernagle, Charles Ginter, and Sienna Hollingsworth; one great-grandchild, Zane Borchert; sister, Donna (Rick) Christianson of Montevideo, MN; brother, Jim Roth of Boyd, MN; special friend, Arlys Putt of Clinton, MN; along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Joanne in 2000; sisters: Jane Schake and Sue Trandall; and brother-in-law, Arden Trandall.
