Howard Von Eschen was born on December 18, 1943, in Ortonville, MN, to parents, Alfred and Elda (Witte) Von Eschen. As a young boy, Howard was baptized and confirmed into the Evangelical United Brethren faith in Odessa. Howard attended grade school in Ortonville and graduated from Ortonville High School in 1961.
Following his education, Howard began working for the Big Stone Canning factory. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1965, and was sent to Ft. Knox, Kentucky, where he received his training before being sent over seas to serve his country in Vietnam. After his honorable discharge, Howard returned to Minnesota and attended the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis for Heating and AC. Upon completion of his studies, Howard worked for Midwest Federal until 1981 when he retired. Howard worked a variety of other jobs to stay busy before retuning to the family farm near Ortonville.
Howard's time on the farm was spent painting buildings, mowing lawn, picking apples and strawberries. He had also planted six tampas grass plants which had really taken off. In his spare time, Howard enjoyed riding his bicycle and also his motorcycle. He will be truly missed by those that loved him and called him friend.
Howard passed away on Sunday, September 30, 2007, at his home near Ortonville, MN, reaching the age of 63 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred.
Left to cherish Howard's memory is his mother, Elda; a brother, Joel; as well as many cousins, extended family and a host of friends.
