Funeral Services for Herman "Whitey" Barett will be on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville. Fr. David Breu will be officiating and burial will be at Consolidated Cemetery in Graceville. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 9, 2011 from 5-8:00 PM at Larson Funeral Home in Graceville with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.
Herman M. Barutt was born on November 3, 1926 to John and Elizabeth (Bueckers)Barutt. He was born and raised at Melrose, MN. He was baptized at St. Bonaface Catholic Church of Melrose, MN. He attended Melrose High school, during his junior year enlisted in the U.S. Navy (Seabees) for eighteen months. Whitey returned his senior year to graduate from Melrose High School.

After graduating, he was employed with Melrose Power Plant in Melrose then Arvig Electric out of Melrose then Otter Tail Power which he was employed for about 40 years. Whitey was united in marriage to Joan Hoeschen May 26, 1951 in Freeport, MN. In this union they were blessed with ten children. They made their homes in Devils Lake, ND, Twin Valley, MN, Minneota, MN and Graceville. Whitey retired in 1987.

Whitey, enjoyed golfing, fishing with his boys, taking his family to the drive in movies, going hunting with his buddies to enjoy the camaraderie and cooking for them, and dancing with his wife to their favorite songs like " String of Pearls".

Whitey was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Fire Departments in Minneota and Graceville.

Whitey, passed away on Monday, February 07, 2011 at Holy Trinity Hospital in Graceville; he had lived to reach the age of 84 years.

He is survived by his wife, Joan of Graceville; sons, Dennis of Fargo, ND, Mike (Linda) of Graceville, MN, Herman Jr. of Wheaton, MN, Edward of Graceville, MN, Philip of Graceville, MN, Dan (special friend Jill) of Charlevoix, MI, Tom ( special friend Rhonda) of Cavour SD, daughters, Peggy Adams (Ed) Rapid City, SD, Theresa (Ordean) Kopfmann of Minneota, MN, Christa (Marvin) Achtenberg of Hot Springs, SD. 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters; 6 brothers.
