Harold Stubbe, age 86, of Milbank, passed away November 18, 2018, at Aberdeen Health and Rehab in Aberdeen, SD.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018, at 10:30AM at the American Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milbank. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 23, 2018, from 5 to 7PM at Mundwiler Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to services at church on Saturday. Pastor Justin Neugebauer will officiate, and the interment will be in Milbank City Cemetery.
Harold LeRoy Stubbe was born February 28, 1932, in Wilmot, SD, to Herb and Agnes (Dikstaal) Stubbe. He attended Lee & Lake Township School through eighth grade. After that, he stayed to help run the family farm. Later, he worked for Milwaukee Railroad as a cook and Langenfeld Ice Cream Company as an ice cream maker.
Harold was drafted into the Army on October 22, 1952. He served two years in the Korean Conflict as a sergeant. He was Honorably Discharged on October 22, 1954, and was awarded the Bronze Star Service Medal and the Meritorius Commendation Medal.
On June 16, 1957, Harold was united in marriage to Arlene Binde. They farmed in the Wilmot/Summit area for a year and a half before moving to Milbank in 1959. He worked as a cheese maker and milk operator at Valley Queen Cheese Factory for 35 years.
He was an active member of his church. He served as an usher, on the church council, and as a custodian. Harold was also involved with the American Legion for 65 years. Harold had a “green thumb” for gardening; especially roses and lilies. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was a strong, proud, hard-working, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Harold is survived by his three children: Nancy (Randy) Biggerstaff of Mitchell, SD; Judy Stubbe of Pipestone, MN; and Larry (Geraldine) Stubbe of Aberdeen, SD; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Clifford (Edna) Stubbe of Evergreen, AL; brothers-in-law: Clarence (Sue) Binde of Hayti, SD; Harold (Shirley) Binde of Summit, SD; and Elmer (Doris) Binde of Onalaska, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his wife, Arlene; his parents; brother, Rudy Stubbe; and sister, Miriam Backman.
