Harold E. Folkens

October 8, 1915 ~ June 22, 2006

Harold was born in Clinton, MN on October 8, 1915 to parents Siert and Grace (Vogel) Folkens. Growing up on the family farm, Harold was never alone having five brothers and three sisters to help with the chores. On January 31, 1944, Harold married Emily Johnson and to this union was born two children, Myra and Harlan. He was a very strong father figure to his children and taught them the value of family and community. Harold and Emily celebrated fifty-one years together before her passing on June 20, 1995.

Harold farmed his entire life. He worked tirelessly with dairy cows and then later hogs in addition to growing various feed crops. Whenever friends or neighbors needed help, Harold was always there to lend a hand. Two things that Harold was committed to, aside from his family, were John Deere tractors and Chevrolet cars. In his later years, he was delighted to spend time with his grandchildren. In fact he loved all children and they loved him. He often enjoyed wiggling his ears to make them laugh, they were truly the apple of his eye. Throughout his life Harold was known for having a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed making people smile and laugh.

Harold passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2006, at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Siert and Grace; his beloved wife Emily; one sister, Ione Swezey; and four brothers, Barney, Carl, Orland and Ray.

Harold is survived by his son, Harlan (Darby) Folkens of Alexandria, MN; daughter, Myra (Edwin) Fossen of Anoka, MN; five grandchildren, AJ (Lynn) Fossen, Tami (Jody) Ahlstrom, Jenny Folkens, Lori Fossen, and Aaron Folkens; and five great-grandchildren, Jamison and Cooper Ahlstrom and Aron, Caleb and Alisha Thunem.
