Hans Paul Holme was born on June 2, 1910, in Odessa Township, MN, one of seven children of Peter and Gunhilde (Dobak) Holme. In 1914, the family moved to a farm in Akron Township.
Hans was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in Eids Lutheran Church of which he was a member until its disolution in 1962. Hans then transferred membership to First English Lutheran Church of Ortonville, MN.
Hans attended school in district #14 and graduated from Ortonville High School in 1930. He was engaged in farming most of his adult life.
On September 8, 1945, Hans married Genevieve (Gebbs) Gill in Moorhead, MN.
Hans served on the board of the Big Stone County Agriculture Society and on the Odessa Farmers Elevator. He served as trustee and treasurer of Eids Lutheran Church and as a board member of Eids Cemetery Association.
Hans was active in politics, serving the DFL party as precinct chairman, county director, state central committee member and a district and state delegate many times. He was also a charter member of the Storsten #512 Sons of Norway.
In his free time, Hans liked to read, watch the Vikings and Twins, attend the Minnesota state Fair, and travel. He especially enjoyed his years on the county fair board. Hans was a "fix-it" man. He liked to work with tools and enjoyed the time spent in his shop.
In 1997, Hans sold his farm, and moved to Ortonville, MN, the following spring.
Hans and Gebbs spent fifteen winters in San Juan, TX, where they enjoyed the longer hours of daylight , the warmer climate, the activities in A-1 Park, and the companionship of many good friends.
Hans passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2005, at the North Ridge Residence Nursing Home in Ortonville, MN, reaching the age of 95. He is preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Olga Stanton, Rodine Holme, Helga Holme, Luella Myrold, and Nora Chisman; and one brother, Paul Holme.
Hans is survived by his wife, Genevieve, of Ortonville, MN; one sister-in-law, Barb Holme of Mahtonedi, MN; as well as many nieces and nephews.
