Gordon Strobel

October 29, 1920 — April 27, 2008

Gordon Frederick Strobel was born on October 29, 1920, the first of five children, to Frederick and Anna Strobel in Hardwick, MN. He attended a rural grammar school through the 8th grade. Gordon entered the US Army serving both in the U.S. and Central Europe from 1942-46. He was a mechanic for the 16th Armored Division 23rd Calvary Squad Mechanized. On February 9, 1952 he married DeLoris Jenter of Centerville, South Dakota. They made their home on a farm east of Clinton and had 3 children, Susan, Steven and Sharon. Gordon farmed until he was 80 years old. During this time he raised dairy and beef cattle, hogs, chickens and ducks. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Ortonville where he served as an usher. He was also a member of the church bowling league for many years. Gordon was an active member of the Big Stone Olde Power and Machinery Club. He was also active in the Clinton American Legion Post 258. Gordon was an adopted grandparent for Darin Larson of Alberta, MN. He enjoyed listening or watching Minnesota Twins baseball or Vikings football games whenever possible. Another pastime was calling in to the local radio station talk shows to ask questions or give his thoughts on the topic of the day.

Gordon died on Sunday, April 27th, having bravely fought cancer for 3 years. His faith was strong and was able to say "goodnight" to many of those dear to him. "Goodnight" not "goodbye" since he will see them again in Heaven.

Preceding Gordon in death were his parents, Frederick and Anna and two brothers, Ancel and Paul.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife DeLoris, three children, Susan (Greg) Wilson of Owatonna, MN; Steven (Kris) Strobel of Morris; Sharon (Vernon) Thompson of Rochester, MN; six grandchildren Matthew and Nicholas Wilson, Lindsey and Timothy Strobel, and Amanda and Abigail Thompson.
