Gordon Duin

August 14, 1937 — January 20, 2010

Gordon John Duin was born on August 14, 1937 to Gustav and Florence (Lundquist) Duin in Graceville, MN. Gordon was raised on the family farm outside of Johnson, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Johnson, MN. Gordon attended Trinity Lutheran Grade School and Graceville High School, graduating with the class of 1956.

After graduation, Gordon began farming full time with his father, Gustav on the family farm. In 1962, Gordon was drafted into the Military where he served two years in the US Army at Fort Riley, Kansas. After the two years, Gordon went back to farming with his Dad. When Gustav died at just age 58, Gordon took over farming and continued to live in the family home with his mother. In the early nineties, when Florence’s health declined, they moved into Graceville where Gordon was her primary caregiver until she moved into the nursing home. Over the last 15 years, Gordon’s quarter section, the original family farm, was rented to Duane Duin. Gordon worked for Duane.

Gordon was a life long faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was head usher at the church at the time of his death, in fact, he usher the Sunday prior to his passing. Gordon enjoyed puzzles, watching sports, and his long daily walks while he smoked his pipe.

On January 20, 2010, Gordon died peacefully but very unexpectedly in his sleep at his home just four blocks from where he was born. He had lived to reach the age of 72 years. On the same day that Gordon was called home, a new great niece was born into the family, Teagan Marie Braun-Duin.

Gordon is survived by his siblings: Gwenith (David) Kuske of Jackson, Wisconsin, Spencer (Carol) Duin of Asheville, North Carolina, Kermit (Bonnie) Duin of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Daryl (Audrey) Braun-Duin of Steven City, Virginia; Nephews: Jon Kuske, Derek Duin, Jason Duin, Festo Mutagaana, Joe Duin, Jay Duin, Jeff Duin, Chad Braun-Duin, Aaron Braun-Duin, Brian Bruan-Duin and Tyler Braun-Duin; nieces: Debbie Boeldt, Rachel Kuske, Darcy Sisson, Lindsey Braun-Duin, and Hope Hawkins; and 20 great nieces and nephews.
