Larson Funeral Home announces the death of Gloria Sandberg, age 75, of Browns Valley formerly of Ortonville, MN. Funeral services for Gloria Sandberg will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 13, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton, MN. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Larson Funeral Home in Clinton and continue one hour before the services at the church. Minister Bev McNeil will be officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Gloria Alice (Schnaser) Sandberg was born on August 18, 1936 to parents Oscar and Elsie (Klages) Schnaser in Ortonville, MN. Gloria was the seventh of seven children. She was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church in Big Stone City. Gloria attended school in Big Stone City through graduation, where she was the salutatorian of her class. She then attended Northern State College for four years in Aberdeen, where she earned her teaching degree. Her first teaching job was in Stockholm, SD for two years, then in Watertown for two years, and then one year in King City, California. Then numerous years in the school districts of Clinton, Ortonville and Beardsley.
On August 9, 1958 Gloria was united in marriage to Richard Sandberg at the Methodist Church in Big Stone City. Following the marriage, Richard and Gloria resided on the farm in rural Clinton and then by Big Stone Lake. Gloria thoroughly enjoyed teaching, traveling, , camping, her piano and listening to music. Gloria entered the Browns Valley Health Center in February of 2008.
Gloria is survived by her husband. Richard of Ortonville, MN; sons, Todd (Debra) of rural Ortonville, MN, Brian of Clara City, MN, and Stephen of Moorhead; two grandchildren, Alicia Poole of Wahpeton, ND and husband Ryan who is serving in Afghanistan, Travis of Wahpeton, ND; one sister Mildred Olson of Watertown, SD; sisters-in-law, Marie Fuller of Ortonville, MN, Joan Sandberg of Alexandria, Loraine Schnaser of Big Stone City, SD; plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Elsie; two brothers, Myron and Gordon; three sisters Goldie Isler, Jeanette Bergstrom and Judy Hunt.
