Funeral services for longtime rural Corona, SD, resident, Mrs. Gladys R. Bohn, age 82, will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 7, 2007, at the Valley Baptist Church in Milbank. Pastor Dennis Webber will officiate. Gladys died on Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at the Wilmot Care Center in Wilmot, SD. Family members are asked to meet in the church fellowship hall by 9:30 a.m. Monday to attend services. The organist will be Sherry DeBoer, the pianist will be Barb Bear, and the soloist will be Richard Bohn. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Sunday from 1-3 p.m. Visitation will continue in the church on Monday one hour before services. Honorary pallbearers will be all of her nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Anthony Bohn, Daniel McGhinnis, April Bohn, Carl Bohn, Julie Proctor, Ed Proctor, Ashley Bohn, Michelle Bohn, and Dianna McGhinnis. Burial will be in the Corona Baptist Cemetery, rural Corona, SD.
Gladys was born on September 16, 1924, in rural Corona, SD, the daughter of Anton and Emma (Wormsbecker) Block. She attended country school in Geneseo Township, Roberts County, SD. Gladys lived on the farm until 1941 when she moved with her parents to Milbank. Prior to marriage, she worked as a waitress in Milbank. She was united in marriage to Bernholdt R. Bohn on June 2, 1944, in Milbank. Following marriage they lived in Milbank for a short time before returning to the family farm near Corona. Bernholdt died on October 20, 1995. Gladys continued to live on the farm until her stroke in July 2006.
She was a member of the Valley Baptist Church, the Corona Senior Citizens (treasurer), the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary (Commander for ten years), and the VFW Auxiliary (served as a Guard). Gladys was a devoted wife and mother. She was a devout Christian who enjoyed her friends, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Gladys also enjoyed gardening, especially her gladiolas , canning, baking, quilting, and volunteer work at the Thrift Store in Milbank.
Survivors include her daughter, LaVon McGhinnis and husband Larry, Carol Stream, Ill.; two sons, Norman, Mound, MN, and Elmer and wife Elaine, Mandan, ND; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one niece, and one nephew.
