Gerald Robert Ward was born in 1913, in Edwards Township, Kandiyohi County, to parents, Guy and Mary (Kirk) Ward. He was baptized in Raymond, MN, and confirmed at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Graceville, MN. He attended school in Graceville, MN. After finishing school, Gerald farmed in Parnell Township until his retirement. On May 2, 1937, Gerald married Clarice Dehlin at the Clinton Lutheran Parsonage, in Clinton, MN. Gerald continued farming with his lovely wife of seventy years. Gerald and Clarice moved to Graceville in January of 1997, into the Hi Lo Apartments. In March of 2004, Gerald entered the Grace Home in Graceville, MN.
Gerald was a member of Siloah Lutheran Church in Parnell Township. He enjoyed the Minnesota Twins, playing bingo and several different kinds of card games. Gerald and Clarice enjoyed gardening together. Gerald treasured his 1952 ?B? John Deere Tractor, and enjoying seeing it in the various parades in Graceville, MN. Gerald and Clarice frequently fished together in Big Stone Lake or in Lake Traverse.
Gerald always put others above his own needs. Often, he would do things for people with out any regard for recognition. He took care of the cemetery and the church along with Clarice for many years, taking great pride in keeping the bushes trimmed. While not formally educated, Gerald was always very intelligent and was able to help his sons with their algebra without ever having taken algebra himself. When grandchildren began to arrive, nothing delighted Gerald more than spending time with them. All the while, Gerald read his newspaper every day to keep him abreast of current events and what was happening in the world.
Gerald Robert Ward, age 93, of Graceville, MN, passed away Sunday, April 15th, 2007, at the Grace Home in Graceville, MN. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Mary Ward; brother, Merrill Ward; Brother-in-law, Arnold Thomas; and son, Glen Allen Ward.
Gerald is survived by his beloved wife, Clarice (Dehlin)
Ward of Graceville; sons, Robert (Darlene) Ward of Graceville, David (Dorothy) Ward of Hankinson, ND; daughter, Janine (Mark) Ringdahl of Chaska, MN; and daughter-in-law, June Ward of Brooklyn Center, MN. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, John Ward, Jeffrey Ward, Jay Ward, Greg Ward, Veronica Hoppe, Anita Ward, David Ringdahl, and Chris Ringdahl; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Thomas; sister-in-law, Eleanor Pring; brother-in-law, Lester Dehlin and wife Ellen Ann.
