Gerald Kellen

Gerald James Kellen was born on January 19, 1934 in Madison, MN to Albert and Alma (Anderson) Kellen. In the spring of 1946, the family moved to Beardsley, MN. Gerald attended school in Beardsley where he played on the Mustang Basketball Team. He was involved in 4-h, he was a member of the Beardsley Go-Getters Club, and enjoyed showing beef cattle. Gerald graduated from Beardsley High School in 1953. After graduation, He helped his father farm using Ford Tractors. In 1957, Gerald was drafted in the army, serving until 1959.
On September 24, 1960, Gerald was united in Marriage to Carol Jean Westlund in Wheaton, MN. They farmed north of Johnson until they moved to the farm in God’s country east of Clinton in 1963. They milked cows and farmed there until they moved to their present farm in 1971.
Gerald loved listening to country music, especially Johnny Cash and Sherwin Linton. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, even if he was rough and tough. Gerald was always right about everything: it was his way or no way. He liked deer hunting, fishing with his grandchildren and his son Phillip and especially his trips to Canada and Alaska.
Gerald was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and the Old Tractor Club to share his love of his Ford Tractor.
Gerald died on Friday, November 20, 2009, at his home, having lived to reach the age of 75 years.
He is survived by his wife Carol Jean of Clinton; children: Greg (Friend Kathy) of Clinton, Phillip (Cindy) of Bellingham, George (Katherine) of Fairbanks, AK, Leon (Peggy) of Clinton, Dennis (Natalie) of Brambleton, VA, Iver Dale (Trish) of Clinton, Frank (Leah) of Ortonville, Susie of Clinton, Sally (James) Koltes of Melrose, MN; 27 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; 4 sisters: Beverly Sykora of Browns Valley, MN, Arlene Bigalke of Wheaton, Deloris (Howard) Thompson, of Texas, Carol (Orrel) Mesker of Ulen, MN; 4 brothers: Lavern (Laura) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Paul (MaryAnn) of Beardsley, MN, LeRoy of Ortonville, Donald (Janet) of Beardsley; and many nieces and nephews.
Gerald is preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren: Adam Kellen and Ashley Kellen; two brothers: Gordon and Albert Jr.; and two sisters: Shirley Montplaiser and Doris Kellen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Walk of Hope, Lakeland Hospice, Holy Rosary Catholic Church or choice of charity.
Larson Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of arrangements.
