Georgia Kolb

Georgia Marie Hamm Kolb, the daughter of Elmer and Ruby (Gagnon) Hamm, was born November 19, 1936 in Odessa, MN. She grew up in Ortonville, MN and attended and graduated from Ortonville High School.

Georgia and Kenny Kolb met at the beach and worked at Hill Top restaurant together. This was the start of a long lasting relationship. They were united in marriage January 8, 1954 at Tabor Evangelical United Breather an Church in Big Stone City, South Dakota. They made their home in Ortonville for a year then moved to Big Stone City, South Dakota. They were blessed with three children, Kim, Deb and Mark.

Georgia worked with Kenny at Kolb Station they owned and operated. She also worked at Auchstetters Drug in Ortonville, managed Kenny’s Fireworks for 55 years, started “Georgia’s Apparel” in Ortonville, MN. from 1969 - 1985.

Georgia was active in the Eastern Star and was Grand Marshall from 1987 ~ 1988, Big Stone Lake Tourism and is named on the granite monument located at the park at the end of the lake, and was a member of Tabor United Methodist Church and church choir.

Georgia, gardened, canned, loved mowing lawn, was artistic, loved decorating for church Fall Harvests, Christmas, (her favorite time of year), or any other function, did everything she possibly could, was very handy fixing everything. She enjoyed people and her Friday Lunch bunch friends. She mostly enjoyed her family, being with them especially her grandchildren. Georgia took care of Kenny after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease for many years.

Georgia died Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Golden Living in Milbank, South Dakota with her family near her. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Kenny of Ortonville, MN; children, Kim of Big Stone City, S.D., Deb (Sam) of Independence, MN, Mark (Karen) of Rockford, MN; grandchildren, Kyle and Shawn Kolb, Phillip and Ellie Stern, Kelly and Christi Kolb; brother and sister in-law, Bob and Marg Kolb, Arlyss and Luane Welde; nieces and nephews; and special friend, Mary Ann Ulrich.

She is preceded in death by parents, brother, Robert Hamm; sister, Ruth Hamm Wollschlager.
