Gail Johnson

Funeral Services for Gail Johnson will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Ortonville. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 from 5-7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Pastor John Ragan will be officiating and burial will be at Mound Cemetery in Ortonville.

Gail LaVonne Evers was born on her family homestead in rural Big Stone City, SD on March 27, 1927 to parents Roland and Mattie "Meade" (Clevidence) Evers. Gail was baptized and confirmed at the Tabor EUB Church in Big Stone City, SD. She attended country school until the 8th grade. She then continued her education at the Big Stone High School.

In September of 1947, she was united in marriage to Harold Conraads in Big Stone City, SD. To this union, they were blessed with two children: Melvin and LaDona. In 1957, Harold died accidentally.

On June 8, 1962, Gail was united in marriage to Warner Johnson. They made their home on a farm outside of Ortonville where they farmed the land and raised hogs. Besides helping with the farm, Gail was a teller at the now Minnwest Bank, also working there under the previous names. She retired in 1979 from the bank but continued to help Warner on the farm until 1997. Warner passed away on September 25, 1998. She continued to live on the farm until 2007 when she moved into the Northridge Residence in Ortonville.

Gail was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ortonville where she was active in many church activities. She also volunteered at the local food shelf and the nursing home. She loved to embroider, mainly dish towels. Whenever they traveled, Warner drove and Gail sewed. She also quilted, making a quilt for each of her grandchildren. She also really enjoyed gardening, flowers and vegetables. She was known for her gladiolas and would plant about 200 per year! She and Warner liked to bowl and traveled often with the Primetimers Group at MinnWest Bank, including to Branson and Las Vegas.

Gail passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Ortonville Area Health Services in Ortonville. She had lived to reach the age of 84 years.

Gail is survived by her daughter LaDona (Dennis) Buescher of Bloominton, MN; daughter-in-law Shannon Conraads of Sheridan, WY; grandchildren: Samantha (Jonathon) Sprengel of Seymour, IN, Daniel (Addie) Conraads of Sheridan, WY, Patrick Conraads of Sheridan, WY; great-grandchildren: Madelynn and Alayna Sprengel and Wesson and Annalise Conraads; and many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Gail is preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Harold and Warner; son Melvin; brother Dan Evers and sister Faith Sprung.
