Floris Thielke

April 29, 1933 — June 10, 2006

Floris Marlyn Thielke was born on April 29, 1933, in Danvers, MN, on the family farm, to parents, Elmer Ernest and Lillian (Beyer) Thielke. Floris was baptized on May 28, 1933, and was later confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church on June 29, 1947. As a young boy, Floris attended District 34 Country School where he represented District 34 in the Big Stone County Spelling Bee where he earned third place. Floris graduated from Ortonville High School on May 31, 1951. While in school, he was a member of the FFA where he earned the American Farmer Degree

Following his education, Floris married Elaine Shirley Anderson at the Eidskog Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MN, on September 3, 1952. Together the couple made their first home on the farm where Floris grew up. Floris continued to help his dad with farming and he also bailed hay for Rex George for $5 a week. The first car that Floris was able to purchase was a 1937 two door black Chevrolet.

On July 19, 1953, Floris and Elaine welcomed home their first child. Together the couple would be blessed with seven children, Pam, Russell, Marshall, Mitchell, Jodie, Kyle, and Robin. Floris and his family lived in Big Stone County where he continued farming until moving to Circle Pines, MN, in 1967. While in Circle Pines, Floris worked and managed several tire shops for Bauer Built Tires. Upon his retirement, Floris moved to his lake home in Backus, MN, where he loved to entertain family and friends.

While his children were younger, Floris took a great interest in them playing sports, especially baseball. He helped coach, manage, and umpire little league baseball for many years.

In his spare time, Floris enjoyed playing softball for Cashtown. He cherished time spent singing in the quartet at Eidskog Lutheran Church with Art Anderson, Carl Schmidt, Arnold Steen, and Mag Thompson. Floris also enjoyed the outdoors fishing and hunting, as well as working with the land, where for many years, he measured ASC land for Big Stone County. Floris truly loved his family and treasured Sunday Noon Dinners of fried chicken. He also had a special place in his heart for his miniature schnauzer, Nikki. He will be truly missed.

Floris passed away on Saturday, June 10, 2006, at the Ortonville Hospital in Ortonville, MN, reaching the age of 73 years.
