Florence Nelson

Florence E. Nelson, age 102, of Graceville, MN, died Monday, August 29, 2016, at the Grace Home in Graceville, MN.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Graceville, MN with Rev. Eugene Andrus officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Saturday. Burial will follow in the Graceville Consolidated Cemetery.

Florence Nelson was born on October 16, 1913, in Renville County, MN, to John and Amanda Warner. The family moved to Graceville in 1921 when her father was hired to drive the Standard Oil Bulk Truck. She was confirmed at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church on April 10, 1927. She graduated as Valedictorian of Graceville High School class of 1931. In 1933, Florence was united in marriage with Leslie Nelson. This union was blessed with six children.

Florence was active in Mt. Olive Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and was involved with the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Happy Homemaker Extension Club. Florence loved the adventure of travel and was proud to have visited almost all 50 states, as well as several foreign countries. She even took five trips to Denmark to visit family. In the quiet times, Florence was an avid reader.

Florence was the first resident at Grace Village when it opened in March 2006. In 2009 she moved to the Grace Home where she remained until her death.
Florence is survived by her children: Phyllis (Arlo) Andrews, Richard (Pat) Nelson, Warner Nelson, Francis (Marilyn) Nelson, and Carol (Dalas) Weisz; son-in-law, Jerry Hendricks; 20 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leslie; brothers, Raymond and Melbourne; and daughter, Jane Hendricks.
