Florence Evelyn (Brick) Jung was born on April 10, 1906, in Little Falls, MN, to parents, Simon and Susan (Leiser) Brick. As a young girl, she attended school in the Little Falls Public School and graduated from Little Falls High School. Following her graduation, Florence attended Little Falls Business College. After completing her course work at the Business College, Florence accepted a position with Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Blooming Prairie, MN. She soon returned home to Little Falls, MN, where she worked with First National Bank for a number of years.
On July 22, 1929, Florence married Clarence (Chic) Jung in the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Little Falls, MN. To this union three children were born, Patricia, James, and Thomas. Together, the family made their home in St. Cloud, MN, until 1952 when they moved to Browns Valley, MN, after purchasing the Telephone Company. Together Chic and Florence owned and operated the Valley Telephone Company for a number of years. Florence helped with her business background by taking care of the secretarial and treasurer duties. After retiring, Florence and Chic enjoyed entertaining friends and family at their cabin on Lake Traverse. During the winter months, they would travel to Texas and wait out the winter with other "snowbird" friends.
Florence was a faithful member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and served her church by being involved in the St. Anthony Guild, past President of the Christian Mothers, past Treasurer for the Daughters of Isabella, and she and Chic both delighted in being active members of RSVP for eighteen years. A milestone for Florence was reached just over a month ago when she celebrated with friends and family for her 100th birthday.
Florence passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2006, at the Browns Valley Health Center in Browns Valley, MN, reaching the age of 100. She is preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Susan; husband, Clarence (Chic) Jung; four brothers; one sister; and one great-grandchild, Shawn.
