Fanny Russell

Memorial Services for Fanny Russell will be held Monday, March 21, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Valley Baptist Church in Milbank. Pastor Dennis Webber will be officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Fanny Russell was born on December 17, 1918 in Big Stone City, SD to parents Fenno and Bertha (Gossel) Conraads; she was the oldest of five children. Fanny grew up on her family farm in Big Stone City where she was her father's "right hand man". She was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Milbank, SD. She attended country school until the 8th grade.

Fanny was united in marriage to Orlynn Rehnke; to this union they were blessed with one daughter, Gladys. They lived in the Milbank area where they farmed and raised their family. Orlynn passed away in 1979.

Fanny was very devoted to her faith and involving other people with her ministries. She was very active in children and youth ministries in the Milbank area. In the late 70's she moved to California where she continued her ministries.

While she was in California, she met William Russell in Prescott. They married in 1980 and moved to Arizona where they stayed until 2009 when they moved back to Milbank because of Fanny's declining health. Bill took Fanny all over the United States and Canada on trips. When in Milbank, they lived in Park Place, when Fanny became ill she moved to Golden Living and eventually St. Williams. Fanny enjoyed living at St. Williams; she received excellent care while living there.

Fanny died on March 18, 2011 at the Milbank Area Hospital after a short stay. She had lived to reach the age of 92 years.

Fanny is survived by her husband of 31 years, Bill Russell; daughter Gladys (Frank) Weatherbee of Bowling Green, KY; two grandsons: David (Karen) Weatherbee and John (Lisa) Weatherbee; 3 great-grandchildren; one sister Helen Earnst of Milbank, SD; and other extended family and friends.

Fanny is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Orlynn; one brother Alvin Conrad; two sisters: Dorothy Dockter and Adeline Ebsen.
