Evis was born in Bellingham, MN on October 23, 1911 to parents Herman and Sarah (Bethke) Gloege. Evis attended school in Odessa, graduating from the twelfth grade in 1929. She was united in marriage to Chris Kasperson on March 14, 1936 at her aunt?s rural Odessa farm house. They were blessed with two daughters, June and Joan. Evis and Chris celebrated thirty-three years together before Chris? passing on October 5, 1969. Evis continued to live on their farm until the early 1990?s.
Evis loved gardening, raising raspberries, morning glories, and even apple trees. In the fall Evis would give the produce to friends and family. On the farm, Evis and Chris grew alfalfa, oats, and corn while also raising turkeys, pigs and sheep. She was the consummate farm wife, taking care of her children and others who needed help. Her home was always very neat and organized, and her cooking was always superb.
While not working, Evis taught Bible school where she shared her faith with others. She also belonged to a Homemaker?s Club. In her later years, she was delighted to have her grandchildren come to visit so that they could visit the kittens that lived in her barn. She never shied away from showing people how she could light a wooden farmer?s match properly.
Evis passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2006, at the Northridge Residence Nursing Home in Ortonville, MN. She is preceded in death by her husband, Chris Kasperson; parents, Herman and Sarah (Bethke) Gloege; and three brothers, Virgil, Lyle, and Leneil.
