Everett Adolphson

Everett David Adolphson was born on August 29, 1925, to Colonel and Louise (Huebner) Adolphson in Clinton, MN. Bud was baptized, confirmed at Elim, and attended school in Clinton. As a young boy, picking peas earned Bud 10 cents a day and a new suit of school clothes. As a student he worked as janitor, stoking the school furnace, and spent four years at Foster Lodge on Big Stone Lake where his love of swimming and fishing began.
The day after his 1943 Clinton High School Graduation, Bud enlisted in the Navy. Bud was sent to Iowa State College. After graduation he served as Motor Machinist Second on the LCT US 769 out of England. On June 6, 1944, Bud participated in the D-Day Invasion at Normandy, France. And Bud was one of the first five sailors to enter Paris following its' Liberation. He often remarked that his service experience was one he wouldn't want to live through again, but it was one he wouldn't have missed for anything in the world.
Bud returned to Clinton and on October 11, 1947, he married Eileen T. Haukos at Eidskog. Bud worked with his father and then as a blacksmith in Beardsley, until the death of Eileen's mother in 1949. Bud, Eileen, and 2 of their children moved home to farm with Pa. In 1951, Bud and Eileen and 3 children moved to Ortonville. Bud worked at Geier Lumber for 10 years and then Ottertail Power for 20 years, after which he took an early retirement at the age of 57. During these years, Bud was also an Adjuster for Schreiner, a Lutheran Brotherhood Agent, and custodian at FELCA. He was a Volunteer Fireman for more than 20 years, proudly served on the Library Board, was a member of the Minkota Bow Hunters, & served on the VFW Post 3964 Color Guard. Bud was an active member at First English Lutheran Church serving as custodian, as well as Sunday School Teacher, adult leader, Board Member, and on the Narthex Building Committee.
Bud was an avid reader and enjoyed his quiet times of studying the Bible. He loved his cabin, the bottoms, ice fishing, gardening, bow hunting, and nature watching. Bud was a private family man who gave a sense of inner strength and quiet tolerance. Bud was content to be at his dining room table where he often reminisced with his brothers, his brother-in-law and friend Bud Haukos, and anyone who came to see his birds and deer.
June 6, 2007, 63 years from D-Day, Bud unexpectedly passed away. He was preceded in death by his parents, Colonel & Louise; his sister, Norma Jean Connelly; his son, Norman; and 5 nephews. Bud is survived by his wife, Eileen; son, David & Susan; daughter, Lorrayne & Harvey; 3 grandsons, Peter, Erik & Matthew Adolphson; 2 granddaughters, Natalie and Hillary Swenson; 3 brothers, Stanley & Marlys, Kenny & Donna, Freddy and Berneta, and sister Luanne Huizenga, nieces, nephews, extended family, and those who called him friend.
