Funeral services for Evelyn Collins, age 84, of Las Vegas, NV. and a former resident of Stockholm, SD., will be held on Monday, September 24, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at the Elim Evangelical Covenant Church in Stockholm, with the Reverend Mark Chapman officiating. Steve Misener will be the organist. Special music will be presented by a quartet composed of Mark and Linda Chapman and Gary and Rosie Christianson. A flute solo will be presented by Linda Chapman. Pallbearers will be Jim Stubler, Ron Oldson, Carson Harris, Dale Nelson, Mark Wientjes, and David Wientjes. Interment will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Mrs. Collins passed away on Tuesday, September 18, 2007, in Las Vegas. The Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home of Milbank is in charge of the arrangements.
Evelyn D. Erickson, the daughter of Erick and Martha (Ostlund) Erickson, was born on April 23, 1923, in Stockholm, South Dakota. She graduated from South Shore High School in 1941. Evelyn attended Mounds Midway Nursing School in Minneapolis and graduated in 1944 as a registered nurse. She served in the United States Army as a nurse at the end of World War II.
Evelyn married John Stubler January 29, 1949 in Las Vegas. While raising her family she worked evenings as a registered nurse in the emergency room for many years. John preceded her in death on November 20, 1973. On March 17, 1984 she married Martin Collins in Las Vegas, and he preceded her in death on May 30, 2000.
Mrs. Collins was very active in the women's fellowship at the Methodist Church in Wamego, Kansas, and volunteered much of her time working in the thrift store.
She is survived by four children, Jim (Alice) Stubler, Las Vegas, NV., Debbie (Ron) Oldson, Draper, UT., Jacque Dodson-Harris (Carson Harris), Las Vegas, NV., and Sheila Jorgensen, Novi, MI.; a step-son, Martin (Diane) Collins Jr. of Victorville, CA.; 17 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Wientjes of Watertown, SD.; her sister-in-law, Marjorie Erickson, Milbank, and a special friend, Don Loeffler, Las Vegas, Nevada and other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two brothers, Sidney and Elvin Erickson; and one sister, Doris Nelson.
