Emma Giedt

January 13, 1911 — February 5, 2009

Emma was born January 13, 1911 in Venturia, ND to John and Christina Roth. Emma grew up in Venturia and attended rural country school, taught by her father.



Emma was united in marriage to Edwin F. Giedt on August 17, 1930. They had two children Don and Joyce.



On April 13, 1945 they moved to Browns Valley and opened their first business, a Hardware Store. They sold their home in Watertown, their car, and many possessions to start their business.



After working in the hardware store for many years, Emma opened her own gift and craft store which she operated until the age of 79 when she retired.



Emma was a very active member of the Browns Valley Town and Country Club for many years, and took charge of collecting membership dues among other things. She was also active in Meal on Wheels, a volunteer at the BVHC, and a generous benefactor to many worthwhile causes in Browns Valley.



The Church and all of the community have always been a big part of Emma’s life. She always had a smile and kind word for everyone she met. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Emma passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at the Browns Valley Health Center.



Emma is survived by her son, Don and wife Sue; of Henderson, NV; son-in-law, Marion Verhoek of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Paul (Stacy) Giedt, Crystal Giedt, Michael (Lolita) Verhoek, Lana (Greg) Hallickson and Steven Verhoek; many nieces and nephews, and many friends.



She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Christine Roth; husband, Edwin Giedt; daughter, Joyce Verhoek; brothers, Herb, Enoch; sisters, Hulda Giedt, and Thelma Christensen.
