Funeral services for Elvin H. Erickson, age 91, of Milbank, and formerly of rural Stockholm, SD, will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 17, 2007, at the Elim Evangelical Covenant Church in Stockholm. The Reverend Mark Chapman will officiate. Elvin died on Friday, September 14, 2007, at the Milbank Area Hospital/Avera Health. The organist will be Steve Misener. Special music will be presented by a quartet composed of Mark and Linda Chapman and Gary and Rosie Christianson and by a duet with Linda Chapman playing the flute and Gary Christianson playing the guitar. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue in the church on Monday one hour before services. Pallbearers will be his five grandchildren: Tina Bachman, Erick Englund, Tim Englund, Aaron Dolen, Adam Dolen; and Bob Kinder. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, rural Stockholm. Elvin was born on February 2, 1916, in rural Stockholm, SD, the son of Erick and Martha (Ostlund) Erickson. He attended country school near Stockholm through the eighth grade. Elvin was united in marriage to Marge (Hansen) Englund on December 15, 1979, at Watertown, SD. Following marriage they farmed near Stockholm. In 1990 they moved to Stockholm. Elvin entered the Golden Living Center in Milbank in August 2005.
He was a member of the Elim Evangelical Covenant Church in Stockholm and was a past board member. Elvin was also a member of the Grant County Historical Society.
He was a past member of the Stockholm Elevator Board and the Evergreen Cemetery Association and was sexton of that cemetery for many years.
Grateful for having shared in his life are wife Marge, Milbank; three children: Rick Englund and wife Diane, Hopkins, MN; Daryl Englund and wife Marlys, Brookings, SD; and Julie Heggestad and husband Steve, Montevideo, MN; five grandchildren: Tina Bachman and husband Chad; Erick Englund and wife Dottie; Tim Englund and wife Jen; Aaron Dolen; and Adam Dolen; two step-grandchildren, Shana Anspach and husband Dustin and Bryon Heggestad; five great grandchildren, Taylor, Ella, Brody, Gavin, and Ashley; two sisters, Evelyn Collins, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Ethel Wientjes, Watertown, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents, one brother, Sidney Erickson, and one sister, Doris Nelsen, preceded him in death.
