Elmer Sittig

Funeral Services for Elmer Sittig, age 96, of Graceville, MN, formerly of Beardsley, MN, will be on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Beardsley, MN. There will be visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Reverend Paul Warnier will be officiating and burial will be in the Midway Cemetery, Beardsley, MN.

Elmer Fredrick Sittig was born on February 15, 1916, to John and Minnie (Peters) Sittig at Brandon, SD. He attended country school through the 8th grade in Brandon Township. He helped his father with the farm work, along with his 16 brothers and sisters.

Elmer shared that his fondest moment in life was that of his marriage to Edna Nussbaum, which took place on September 5, 1934, in Sioux Falls, SD. To this union four children were born.

Elmer worked at John Morrell in Sioux Falls, SD until November of 1952 when they moved to Beardsley, MN, where he farmed for a few years. Later he tended bar for 20 years at the Beardsley Liquor Store and the Valley Hai Supper Club. The past 12 years he had resided at Grace Home in Graceville.

Elmer served on the Beardsley School Board, Browns Valley Clinic Board, Farmers' Union, and NFO. As a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, he served as the sexton for Midway Cemetery.

Elmer liked to bowl but his favorite place to be was fishing in the boat on the lake, keeping every fish he caught! He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Elmer died on April 24, 2012, in his home, having reached the age of 96.

Cherishing his memory are his children: Dale (Carole) Sittig of Overland Park, KS; Harlan (Joelyn) Sittig of Fargo, ND; Arlyce (Harlan) Rieck of Waconia, MN; and Gary Sittig of West Allis, WI; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; his brother, Ernest Sittig, and his sister, Eveline Erickson, both of Sioux Falls, SD.
