Elizabeth (Haanen) Piechowski was born on October 8, 1907, on the family farm in Traverse County, MN, to parents, Henry and Mary (Schwagel) Haanen. As a young girl, she was baptized and confirmed in to the Catholic Faith at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Beardsley, MN. She attended country school in Traverse County, but her true passion was the farm life.
Elizabeth married Joe R. Piechowski on October 19, 1927, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Beardsley, MN. The couple made their home on a farm near Beardsley, where they raised their three children. Elizabeth was a hard working farm wife and she enjoyed working right along side Joe with whatever needed to be done. Following many years on the farm, Elizabeth and Joe moved to Appleton, MN. Following Joe's death, Elizabeth returned to Beardsley.
When not helping in the fields, Elizabeth enjoyed baking, cooking and farm work.A�A� Later in life she enjoyed playing a hand of cards, sharing meal time and drying dishes at the senior meal site in Beardsley.A�A� Elizabeth's most favorite thing was having a cup of coffee and sharing her famous sugar cookies with friends.A�A� A�A�She truly loved her children, and grandchildren, and treasured the memories made with her great grandchildren and even great-great grandchildren!
Elizabeth passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2006, at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton, MN, reaching the age of 98 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary; husband, Joe R.; three brothers, three sisters, one great grandchild; and one great-great grandchild.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Richard Piechowski of Browns Valley, MN; Virgil Doschadis of Beardsley, MN; and Dolores (Bob) Halvorson of Granite Falls, MN; one sister-in-law, Ardys Haanen of Beardsley, MN; nine grandchildren, Gracia Cardwell of Casper, WY, Candice Ohnstad of Casper, WY, Kristi Gades of Appleton, MN, Alan Piechowski of Peever, SD, Deb Berning of Ortonville, MN, Vicki Berning of Beardsley, MN, Connie Miller of Browns Valley, MN, David Halvorson of Shalmer, FA, and Daniel Halvorson of Ninilchik, AK; twelve great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
