Elfie Anderson

Funeral services for former
Milbank resident, Mrs. Elfie H. Anderson, age 91, of Watertown,
SD, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank. The Reverend Keith Bicknase of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank will officiate. Elfie died on Thursday, March 12, 2009, at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center in Estelline, SD. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday, March 16th, from 4-6 p.m. and in the funeral home one hour before services. Active pallbearers will be her grandson, Kenneth A. Anderson, Michael Eiden, Mark Horsman, Steve Fagan, Arnie Hunt, and Adam Hunt. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.

Elfie was born on September 9, 1917, in rural Milbank,
the daughter of Bruno and Hedvig (Schultz) Gesswein. She attended grade school in rural Milbank and Milbank High School. Elfie was united in marriage to Milo A.Anderson on Nov. 19, 1938,
in Watertown, SD. Following
marriage, the couple moved to Detroit, MI. During WWII Elfie was a riveter in Detroit
building airplanes.

After her husband's discharge from
the U.S. Army after WWII, they returned to Grant County, SD, and farmed. In 1954 they moved back to Detroit where Elfie worked for Sears from 1959-1975. They moved back to Milbank in 1979 where they resided until moving to Watertown
in 1989.

She was baptized and confirmed
in the Lutheran faith. Elfie was a spectacular cook and homemaker. She
especially enjoyed flea markets and could sell anything.

Survivors include her son,
Kenneth R. Anderson, Watertown, SD;
her grandson, Kenneth A. Anderson and wife Rhonda, Sioux
Falls, SD; her granddaughter,
Kristina L. Eiden and husband Michael, Rochester Hills,
MI; and four great grandchildren: Keegan and Morgan Anderson, Sioux Falls, and Kenley and Caylin Eiden, Rochester Hills, MI.

In addition to her husband,
Elfie was preceded in death by her sister, Elsie Gesswein, and two brothers and one sister-in-law, Art (Wylah) Gesswein and Ernie Gesswein.
